Comments: A pensioner who warned motorists of impending police speed trap was convicted of wilfully obstructing a constable in the execution of his duty, banned from driving and ordered to pay 364 costs yesterday.

Given that he was around at the time, he ought to have remembered the early days of the AA (the patrolman will salute you -unless- there's a speed trap, because you can't prosecute someone for not saluting...)

I'll sleep so much more soundly tonight, now that this dangerous criminal has been punished for his heinous offence.

I'm going to send this link to my local radio stations. They have started adding speed trap locations to traffic reports in a semi-covert manner ("there's a man taking pictures of cars at such-and-such").

Or, shall I record it and send the .wav to the police and see what happens?

I think the local radio station is safe as long as it confines itself to saying "There's a man taking pictures of cars" and not "You should slow down or they'll get you in your speed trap".

The main thing I like about this story is that it exposes the utter hypocrisy of the police re speed cameras - they claim "knowing that speed traps are about will encourage people to drive more safely", but then prosecute people for, err, spreading the word that speed traps are about...

If only the powers that be would read this.

How can we as moterists be expected to have any real respect and consideration for the Traffic Police when they target motorway and duel carriageway drivers for driving a little faster?

.....(I know its still technically breaking the law!but then vehicles today are far safer than years ago when the spped limits were imposed)... when you have youths driving as if they are on Brands Hatch arround the towns and country lanes. We've reported them to the Police with car reg numbers etc., but the Police are just plain not interested. These are the real danager to all and sundry.
